The hotel is just off Rue Royale and Place d'Armes, perfect for dog-walking and with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. The grand hotel ambiance with antique furniture was just what I wanted.

Upon arrival, I found that my room was an 'Accessible' one, which I usually don't prefer. It felt a bit chilly, and unfortunately, there was no way to adjust the temperature. If you're planning a winter stay, be sure to bundle up. The hotel's proximity to the ferry was a plus, and the influence of Stanley Kubrick's aesthetic added intrigue to the atmosphere.

The staff went above and beyond to replenish the hot items and even drove us to the train station, showing exceptional service. Room service, housekeeping, laundry, a welcome drink, and tours/ticket assistance were all top-notch.

The location made a nice change from staying in a standard box. It is situated on a great quiet street but close to everything, offering easy access to the port or the tunnel. The room delivery, comfortable room, lovely lobby with a grand staircase, and easy secure parking in the hotel garage enhanced the experience, although there is room for improvement to the overall atmosphere. I was intrigued by the romantic history of the hotel, as evidenced by unique features like the hidden button known only to the Housekeeper in room 114.

The dining experience was a mix of highs and lows. Although they ran out of hot food quickly, the excellent service set us up nicely for a day of traveling. The French-style offerings from the well-stocked buffet, including conventional bread with cheese and ham, were delightful. However, I was disappointed when they refused a request for more hot food.
